BBTC has been a part of the Fairtrade movement since 1995. All of its Tea plantations have adopted the Fairtrade standards and the first Joint Body Fairtrade Foundation was established in 1995.
Presently each of BBTC’s plantation groups in India – Mudis, Singampatti, Dunsandle-,have their own Fairtrade Foundation, represented by its work force.
BBTC extends a number of facilities to its work force, such as housing, medical care, maternity and sickness benefits, crèche facilities, schooling, uniforms and many more. Over and above this, the Fairtrade premium money accrued from sales of Fairtrade labelled teas have, over the last 3 decades, been used for activities that benefit the worker and the community. Several initiatives encompassing Social Schemes have been promoted such as Insurance Policies, Computer center, National Savings Certificate, funeral fund and Specialised medical treatment have been extended to our workers.
In line with our concern for the environment, smokeless stoves, pressure cookers, hot boxes and solar lanterns have been provided, in order to conserve fuel and reduce pollution.
With a view to equipping the next generation to spread their wings, funds are utilized to support primary and higher education through the distribution of free notebooks to children and scholarships to all students for higher education.
BBTC’s Fairtrade labeled teas are now available in convenient Modern packaging in the Indian market.
